Marcin Masecki is one of Poland’s most prolific and idiosyncratic artists He performs extensively on all keyboard instruments, sings, composes for film and theatre, produces festivals, conducts orchestras, educates, records and curates musical events. His projects span a wide range of styles and his virtuosic fusion of different genres as well as the blurring of the line between high art and entertainment have become his hallmarks.
His latest project “Boleros y mas” is an exploration of Latin American music, familiar to him as he spent his childhood in Colombia. This year he will go forward with another chapter of his fascination with music from South America. This time, he expands the classical jazz trio into a 9-piece big band that sounds like old Hollywood with a touch of jungle. His unusual arrangements turn the classical boleros Brazilian choros Columbian cumbias into symphonic and film music, and his personal relationship to the southern continent gives us a completely new musical genre - a mixture of Latin energy and Slavic melancholy.
Another Marcin’s project is the Młynarski-Masecki Jazz Band, an orchestra led jointly with Jan Młynarski, presenting Polish popularmusic from the inter-war periodin a new and original version.
