Hailing from Cyprus’s divided capital Nicosia, and led by Antonis Antoniou the founder of Monsieur Doumani and Trio Tekke, Buzz’ Ayaz creates a transfixing Eastern Mediterranean psychedelia. Theirself-titled debut album is a fuzzed-out urban soundscape of dubby electronics,70s-psych organ, growling bass clarinet, amplified folk instruments, ritualbeats and Greek and Anatolian melodicism. The band members come from both sidesof the capital’s divide, and the music found on Buzz’ Ayaz is adeliberate attempt to give a voice to the city as a whole. A mercurial soundthat echoes above the concrete walls and checkpoints. Their debut album was released in August 2024 via acclaimed German label Glitterbeat Records and it received outstanding criticism from worldwide media, reaching No.1 in the World Music Charts Europe and in the Transglobal World Music Chart. Buzz' Ayaz has already performed at significant festivals like WOMEX and ESNS, and toured extensively, showcasing their music to a wide range of audiences.
